Epa research program for reducing CO2 emissions through efficient energy technologies. Report for October 1990-October 1993

The paper discusses EPA research in a number of areas that can potentially contribute to the ultimate reduction of global carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions. It provides a brief overview of the major research programs, describing in more detail the development of EPA's fuzzy-logic-based motor controls for improved energy efficiency. Motors use over 60% of the electric power generated in the U.S. The efficient use of electricity for motor operation is of paramount importance in reducing fossil energy consumption and thereby helping minimize the emissions of CO2 and acid rain precursors.
