Energy-Efficient Green Vehicle Routing Problem

Thegreenhousegasemissionsfromthetransportationsectorareoneofthemajorcontributorstoglobal warmingtoday.FreightsharetoGHGemissionsislikelytoincrease2-foldby2050.Thismakesit criticalforCO2emissionstobereducedthroughanoptimizedtransportationstrategy.Vehiclerouting, whendoneefficiently,canreducetheseemissionsacrosscountries.Inthisattempt,thetraditional distanceminimizationobjectiveofthevehicleroutingproblemhasbeenreplacedwithanenergyemission-centricobjective.Amodelisformulatedtakingenergyandemissionsintosimultaneous considerationandatypicalVRPproblemhasbeenevaluatedusingageneticalgorithm.Theapplication oftheproposedmodelisobservedtoreduceemissionssignificantlycomparedtoconventionalmodels. Consideringthepossibilityofincreaseincarbontaxinfuture,energy-emissionminimizedrouting wouldnotonlyaid“greenlogistics,”butalsoreducetheenvironmentalcostsincurred.
