Statistical power transmission network design

A statistical planning method is developed for expanding electric power transmission networks when the bus load forecast and operating conditions are uncertain. This method seeks the minimum cost network expansion plan which guarantees a specified level of probability of supplying the uncertain substation load-demands without overloading any circuits while dispatching the generators economically under normal operating conditions and minimizes the probability of load shedding under outage conditions. The approach taken is to formulate the planning problem as a set imbedding problem which is solved using standard constrained optimization methods.
