Planning for Sustainable Growth in the Antelope Valley, California - 22.5 Miles of Transmission Main and Counting

To maintain sustainable growth in the Antelope Valley region of California, the Antelope Valley – East Kern Water Agency (AVEK) has implemented the Water Supply Stabilization Project No. 2. The project consists of the development of a 1,500 acre (607 Hectares) groundwater recharge and extraction field that will recharge water from California’s State Water Project (SWP) during periods when SWP supplies exceed demands and will extract up to 90% of the banked water during periods of high demand when SWP supplies are low. During the first phase of the project anticipated to be over $75 million in capital improvements at completion, AVEK has installed over 22.5 miles (36.2 kilometers) of 48–inch (1200 millimeter) cement mortar lined and coated (CML&C) steel pipe, 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers) of 12-inch to 30-inch (300 millimeter to 750 millimeter) Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) / CML&C steel well collection pipelines, and five 36–inch (900 millimeter) CML&C steel pipe turnouts to an existing 60–inch (1500 millimeter) pre stressed concrete cylindrical pipe
