ICCD speckle observations of binary stars. VII: a duplicity survey of the Hyades cluster

The Hyades cluster is the nearest open cluster to the solar system, and its distance has long been a contentious issue. Recent work by Dombrowski (Ph. D. thesis, Georgia State University, 1991) included a calculation of the Hyades distance modulus based on binary star orbits. In order to expand the sample of Hyades binaries with potentially short-period visual orbits, a speckle survey of 153 bright Hyades stars (V<10) for possible multiplicity was conducted at the KPNO 4 m Mayall telescope on 23-27 November 1991
