light toward other important topics such as robotic intelligence, machine intelligence and intelligent control of robots. Despite these shortcomings, the text is very suitable for a "rst course in robotics since those topics do belong to a more advanced text. `Modeling and Control of Robotic Manipulatorsa serves well as the main textbook for a semester robotic manipulator course. It is strongly recommended that the instructor provide supplemental exercises using computer-based modeling. Independent students should utilize other books for that purpose. A properly equipped laboratory would further enhance the learning experience. This volume has taken robotics, key elements of automation, to the next level. Both novice and expert readers can bene"t from this timely addition to robotics literature. Towards that goal, the authors have made a critical contribution and have succeeded. For this, they have earned and deserve our congratulations.
