An advanced RF surface -to -air missile (SA M) system accompanies with ground radars, missiles, launchers, etc. which are very vulnerable against air -to -surface missiles(ASMs). This paper studies about the threat of supersonic maneuvering ASMs. Two types of ASMs; a cruising type and a ballistic type are studied, both accelerate by kick motor and start random maneuvers before hitting the ground site. In this paper, the ballistic type ASM is mainly studied. The random maneuver increases the survival probability of the ASM against the ground launched AM M, this however decreases the ASM ’s final velocity, and reduces the survival probability against the ground gun fire control system. The relation between the kick motor ignition time, the magnitude of random maneuvers, and the ASM ’s final velocity is discu ssed as well as the g capability envelope, the time envelope , the trajectory shaping of the ASM. An IR homing anti -missile -missile(AMM) system, which defends the SAM site is briefly explained. The interception pro blem between the ASM and the AMM is considered as a game, and some features of the game is briefly discussed.
