Diagnosis of Cardiovascular Syphilis in the Follow-Up of a Long-Term Cancer Survivor: A Case Report

AbstractThe manifestations of syphilis are nonspecific and may masquerade as many other diseases. In the immunocompromised host, the infection often exhibits unusual features compromising skin and internal organs. We report a 55-year-old woman who is a breast cancer survivor who presented with chronic nonspecific symptoms years after her breast cancer treatment. A positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan revealed aortic vasculitis that led to the diagnosis of tertiary cardiovascular syphilis.
