Phase-dominant spatial light modulators

Computer simulation results are given for an optical correlator in which the spatial light modulator has a strong phase modulation and a weak proportional amplitude modulation at each pixel. The signal/noise ratio on the correlation plane is found to be much higher than that of a matched filter, and the residual signal-dependent amplitude modulation improves the system performance in some cases.
