Simulating Graphics for Performance Analysis Purposes by Combining Real World Background and Synthetic Foreground Data

A method for simulating images for testing purposes is proposed. Essential in our approach is the distinction between foreground objects and the background image. A simulation model is developed for the foreground, and a real image is used as background. A third model, the synthesis model is used to integrate the two. The paper includes the requirements on simulation and presents the novel approach, illustrated by an example of simulating lines on textured backgrounds in the 8-bit grey value domain.
