Reactive-power balance in a system consisting of a thyristor voltage converter and an asynchronous motor

The reactive-power balance in a system consisting of a thyristor voltage converter (TVC) and an asynchronous motor (AM) is considered, in the case of ac voltage regulation. Theoretical and experimental curves of the power consumed by the system are plotted. On that basis, the reactive power consumed by the TVC is estimated. The basic factor determining the increase in reactive power of the system is the TVC-induced phase shift of the first stator-voltage harmonic relative to the grid voltage.
