Improved P&O Algorithm for Maximum Power Point Tracking at the Photovoltaic Array Using an Interleaved Boost Converter

In this paper, an improved Perturb & Observe algorithm proposed to maximum power point tracking in a photovoltaic array. In this work, the interleaved boost converter used, which can extract more power than a single converter structure. In the suggested approach, to improve performance of Perturb & Observe algorithm versus tracking accuracy, the reference voltage of this algorithm has been a function of irradiation and temperature of the photovoltaic module surface, which at any moment, enables the algorithm to create a voltage for the controller of the converter input voltage that this voltage, proportionate to maximum power point of a photovoltaic module. Simulation outcomes and comparative investigations with classical Perturb & Observe algorithm used in single converter structure, verify the adequate performance of the recommended method versus extract more power from the photovoltaic array.
