ASPIRATING PIPES DO NOT FLUTTER AT INFINITESIMALLY SMALL FLOW

In earlier theoretical work it has been found that cantilevered pipes aspirating fluid at their free end and conveying it toward the clamped end lose stability by flutter at infinitesimally small flow velocities. It is shown here that this is false, and the necessary theoretical correction is given. Moreover, an experiment is described supporting this new finding: aspirating pipes appear to remain stable to at least high flow rates.
