Play as learning

Play has long been a topic occupying the minds and writings of behavioral scientists in their attempt to define or delineate this universal phenomenon in humans and lower animals. Much attention has been paid to developing ideas and criteria about the "why" behind this activity. A spate of so-called theories has been offered to explain the "playful activity" of children and young animals, and in differentiating it from its adult form.
