Adaptive Control of Synchronous Machine Excitation

Adaptive control techniques with particular emphasis on the characteristics that make them suitable for application as synchronous machine stabilizers are discussed. The control algorithms described use least-squares identification with different control strategies. Microcomputer implementation of two algorithms and results of experimental tests are also described. Use of a varying forgetting factor with the identification routine and a self-searching control strategy is introduced to improve the overall flexibility of the controller when applied to varying operating conditions encountered in power systems.
