To simulate the flame dynamics in a rectangular combustor with a swirl injector, a 3D large-eddy simulation(LES) which is considered a level-set flamelet turbulent combustion model was implemented and Proper Orthogonal Decomposition(POD) analysis was used to identify acoustic modal analysis in addition to the Fast Fourier Transform(FFT). The LM6000 developed by GEAE was used as the combustor of concern and boundary conditions are based on experimental data. Heat release of combustion allowed the volume of the combustion gas to dilate immediately so that the main swirl stream behind of a swirl cup stretched further downstream and than formed central toroidal recirculation zone. Therefore the vortex breakdown occurred continuously that means the procession of the vortex with decreasing strength. Additionally, several modes developed dominantly by the turbulent dynamics of the swirl flows was observed.
