On digital-model design for nuclear reactor computation and control

Abstract The problem of designing a digital nuclear reactor model for off- or on-line computation and control is considered. Two techniques are studied. In the first, which is analytical, all parameters of the reactor, including reactivity, must be known. In the second, which is computational, some of them may be unknown. These parameters are computed on the basis of neutron population measurements. The application of the results to stochastic nuclear reactor systems is illustrated, and some computer results are provided which show and compare the effectiveness of the above design techniques.
