Application of Profibus to remote control system for belt conveyors in collieries

In order to solve the information transmission and control during long-distance transportation of the belt conveyor in collieries, the paper designed a remote control system for the belt conveyor based on Profibus. The system control core, S7-300PLC, was in charge of logic operation of the system program and collection of information of partial peripheral sensors. The remote I/ O, ET200M, was used to collect remote information of the belt conveyor and control remote equipments. The high-rate Profibus was applied to communication between S7-300 and ET200M. The system not only saved the cable investment, but also reduced the number of workers along the belt, and enhanced the transportation efficiency. It was conducive to building the intrinsically safe colliery.
