Performance evaluation of start of message indicator mechanism for uplink common packet channel in UMTS W-CDMA

The uplink CPCH mechanism in UMTS W-CDMA incorporates related physical channels for admitting or allocating shared CPCH resources. The information transmitted over the related channels is vulnerable to loss and distortion in a wireless environment. The start of the message indicator serves to interrupt incorrect CPCH data transmission that could arise from the misinterpretation of the resource information. The reliability for the transmission of the start of message indicator relies on the transmission duration. We investigate the required length of the start of the message indicator in a variety of channel environments for the reliable detection.
