Planar sensor for permittivity and velocity detection based on metamaterial transmission line resonator

A new sensor concept for the detection of permittivity and velocity has been developed using a metamaterial transmission line resonator. The spatial filter velocimetry is applied in order to detect the velocity accurately and with a moderate cost. The planar sensor is analysed and tested in a measurement setup. First velocity measurements in a belt-conveyor system confirms this planar sensor concept. The areas of application of these type of sensors are monitoring transportation of materials in conveyor belts for several industrial applications.
