Notes on the Design and Operation Characteristics of the Apparatus for the East Pacific Rise Electromagnetic Active Source Experiment

Abstract : A transmitter assembly is described which consists of four parts; the power supply and waveform control on shipboard, the cable delivering the power and the control signals from shipboard through roughly 3 kilometers of seawater to the transformer pressure casing near the seafloor, the electronics within this casing that transform and rectify the power coming down the cable and chop it into the waveform indicated by the control signals, and the lengths of cable lying along the ocean bottom that make up the transmitter antenna. The complete transmitter assembly is illustrated and its parts are described in the text.
