A Research on Methods to Enhance Creativity in Animation

Both in animation industry and academia, most of the researches are mainly focused on production theories and skills. Deeper discussions about creativity in animation are few. This paper proposes a set of methods for creativity in animation named “OMBRE” (Observe, Master, Brainstorm, Rearrange and Evaluation). The methods were proved applicable through teaching experiments. This research discovers that creative ways of problem solving, creativity teaching, and Hollywood style stories can be integrated together to help the development of creativity in animation. The teachers in junior high and elementary schools support that the “OMBRE” methods are effective for enhancing creativity itself and creativity teaching. By applying “OMBRE” methods, there are obvious improvements for fine arts students and regular students in different aspects, including creativity, originality of subjects, skills, and esthetic sensibilities.
