Using Simulated Visual Illusions and Perceptual Anomalies to Convey Dynamic Range

Abstract Here we show that introducing visual anomalies can actually be useful to convey dynamic range. Commonly, such anomalies are considered a distracting artifact. In contrast, this chapter argues that they can be used to improve visual realism, in particular high dynamic range, if we are able to predict them by simulation and include them in imagery in an appropriate way.
