A new inertia emulator and fuzzy-based LFC to support inertial and governor responses using Jaya algorithm

This paper proposes a new load frequency control (LFC) strategy for decreasing the oscillation of system frequency which is caused by load disturbance and wind fluctuations in a wind-thermal power network. The fuzzy logic mechanism is used as the main cornerstone of the LFC for three interconnected areas in a hybrid power system. An online Jaya algorithm is applied to optimally tune the parameters of the proposed controllers as well as the input and output fuzzy membership functions. Moreover, a new inertia emulator is appended to the controlling mechanism of the non-inertia units those are doubly-fed induction generators based wind farms in order to simultaneously enhance both the inertia and governor responses. A 39-bus New England test system containing 10 thermal units and 3 wind farms is used to investigate the performance of the suggested framework in DIgSILENT PowerFactory software.
