THE CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN FLOW-HELD STRUCTURE AND CRITICAL STATES ON A 65-DEGREE DELTA WING

An extensive study into the complex relationship between the flow field structure elicited by a 65° delta wing and nonlinear and even nonanalytic behavior found in the aerodynamic response has been conducted. In this study, the locations of bifurcations in the skin-friction line topologies found as the wing was rolled about an inclined longitudinal body-axis were compared to discontinuiti es in the static loading and' variations in the unsteady rolling moment data's character. Following this comparison, a relationship between the flow structure, its ability to reach new, post-maneuver equilibriums and the aerodynamic response elicited by this flow structure is discussed.
