Social science data archives : progress and prospects

ALL scientific activities require data, or information about phenomena. The several science disciplines use a variety of data gathering and manipulating tools and methods : the laboratory, the field experiment, the cyclotron, the electron microscope, the radio-telescope, participant-observation, sampling techniques, and interviews with human subjects.
