Extending Lifetime of a Network by Load Sharing in AODV Routing Protocol

Sometime the nodes also have to perform some computation with the collected data and transfer it to the destination. Especially where the source of power of the nodes are consisting of limited power source or battery. This power is reducing at the cost of transferring data as well as for the internal computing purpose [1]. On exhaustion of power, eventually the nodes die. Then all the data computed by the node is also lost. Further data of that particular position where the sensor node was placed is also no more available. Gradually the number of nodes in the network also decreased. In this paper we use AODV routing protocol to transfer the data from the sensor node to the destination server. Generally in the shortest path is used to transfer the data from source to destination. We consider here two important metrics, one is residual power another is rate of power consumption for internal computing in the node. Considering these two factors for each node we make a rank and introduce a dynamic threshold value of rank. Now the node having rank less than the threshold is excluded from the internal computing, it can only transfer the collected data to its neighbor node which have sufficient power. Thus the life time of the node is extended eventually the average lifetime of the network is also extended. And as we determine the threshold value as dynamic, there is no sudden fall of power and maximum numbers of nodes will active towards the end.
