EFFECT OF SAWFATION ON THE STEADY-STATE STABILITY OF A SYNc"ouS MACHINE CONNECTED To AN INFINITE BUS SYSTEM.

Accurate prediction of synchronous machine steady-state and transient stability requires the proper representation of the iron saturation in the machine modeling. This paper presents a synchronous machine model which includes the effect of the saturated reactances as well as the cross- magnetizing phenomenon. This model is used to study the steady-state stability of a synchronous machine connected to an infinite bus system. These studies show that the effect of saturation is noticeably large and depends mainly upon the cross-magnetizing effect. Also, the results obtained by this model are found to be in a good agreement with those obtained from the experimental results.
