ABSORÇÃO DE SILÍCIO PELO SORGO EM NEOSSOLO QUARTZARÊNICO ADUBADO COM SÍLICA

Research with silicon fertilization is usually carried out with sources of silicon (Si) having other nutrients in its composition which changes the pH of the soil, making it difficult to study the effect of isolated plant nutrient. Silica is a source that presents only the Si. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the absorption of this element by sorghum plants depending on silicon fertilization and the influence on soil pH. The experiments were conducted in Quartzipsamment soil in a randomized block design with four levels of Si (0, 300, 600 and 1000 kg ha -1 ) and five repetitions. At 30 days after emergence of sorghum were evaluated the amount of Si in soil and shoots of sorghum, in addition to soil pH. Fertilization with silica did not change the soil pH. The amount of Si in soil and plant increased linearly with the applied levels. Therefore, silica can be used in the assessment of unique effects of Si on sorghum plants because plants respond to this source, which does not alter the soil pH.
