Knowledge-based Systems in Control Engineering

Abstract Knowledge processing provides a new methodology for solving analysis, decision and control problems. The methodological and software-technological foundations of such systems are surveyed. A comparison of the scope of these methods with basic problems occuring in control engineering leads to a characterisation of the potential fields of application as well as a list of app1ication-oriented research topics. These conclusions are supported by the consideration of three knowledge-based systems that are being successfully applied in the control engineering practice.
