CELLULAR AUTOMATA EXPLORATIONS ON A BEOWULF CLUSTER COMPUTER

A Beowulf cluster refers to any low-cost cluster constructed from commercially available PCs [1, 2, 3, 4]. In August 2000 the Ateneo de Manila University HighPerformance Computing Group built a Beowulf cluster intended for computational science applications [5, 6]. The first computational project conducted by the group was the use of cellular automata in modeling wave propagation in excitable media using the Beowulf cluster [7]. Currently, the group is exploring the use of cellular automata in modeling traffic dynamics in a section of Metro Manila -the capital region of the Philippines [8]. It is also using cellular automata in modeling urban growth in Metro Manila.
