Optimal power flow dispatching of maritime hybrid energy system using model predictive control

Abstract For the PV/battery/diesel/onshore-power hybrid energy system in maritime application, the optimal power flow dispatching is of great importance for the operational safety and efficiency of the system. In this paper, the optimal energy management model of maritime hybrid energy system is developed, and the model predictive control method is employed for optimally dispatching the power flows between ship’s load and distributed energy resources. The power flow management aims to minimize the entire electricity cost during the period that the ship parks in port, and also satisfy a number of constraints from both the hybrid energy system own and the port’s regulations. Result of simulation experiment shows that with the proposed model and dispatching method, the optimal energy management solutions can be obtained with significant cost savings and robust control performance.
