Short range tracking of moving persons by UWB sensor network

Ultra wideband (UWB) radar is a very perspective technology for moving person tracking in critical environments. In this application of UWB radar, the effect of target shadowing or dead zone creation can be revealed. These effects result in that the single UWB radar is usually able to detect the target moving nearby the radar antennas but it is not capable to detect at the same time the other targets very often. In order to solve this problem, UWB radar sensor network employing the data fusion method is proposed for short range tracking of moving targets in this paper. The performance of the proposed tracking system will be illustrated by the experimental measurement in which the four-sensor network is used for three moving person tracking. The results obtained from this scenario will show low-complexity, robust and very good performance of the proposed tracking system.
