Management of Sexually Assaulted Females

A plan of management is described which seems suitable for a large hospital and adaptable for any clinician. The victim of sexual assault has several needs which must be met. The Philadelphia General Hospital approach to care of injuries and prevention of venereal disease, psychologic damage and pregnancy is described. Aspects of the medicolegal examination are discussed as a major responsibility. Early study of postcoital contraceptive therapy revealed a high incidence of gastrointestinal side effects as well as four pregnancies established in the treated cycle.
