SUMMARY
The W3H task framework allows the execution of compound jobs utilizing the description of work and data flows in a heterogeneous bioinformatics environment using meta-data information. By means of these descriptions, the task system can schedule the necessary execution of applications available in the environment, depending on rules specified in the meta-data. By integrating this task framework into the publicly available web interface W2H, similarly based on meta-data, web access and data management are immediately available for each task description. Authors of task descriptions can base their work on the underlying classes and objects to be able to describe dependency rules between previously independent applications. The result of a compound task is given as XML data that is translated according to XSLT data into web pages or plain text to report the result of the task to the user.
