REGRESSION AND CORRELATION METHODS IN HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS

REGRESSION AND CORRELATION ANALSIS IS EXPLAINED WITH A MINIMUM OF THEORY, AND ITS USE IS ILLUSTRATED IN A SIMPLE LINEAR BIVARIATE EXAMPLE. A REGRESSION RELATIONSHIP IS ESTABLISHED BETWEEN HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE EXPENDITURES AND GASOLINE CONSUMPTION. A COEFFICIENT OF CORRELATION IS DETERMINED AND TESTED FOR SIGNIFICANCE. CONFIDENCE LIMITS ARE ESTABLISHED FOR THE REGRESSION CURVE. THE APPLICATION OF REGRESSIONING CORRELATION FOR VARIOUS HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS IS DISCUSSED, AND THE MERITS OF THE TECHNIQUE ARE EMPHASIZED. /AUTHOR/
