Automated analysis for high energy gamma ray spectra

Abstract A procedure to accomplish complete analysis of high energy photon spectra is delineated. With resolution enhancement through deconvolution the principal objective, the preparatory steps to achieve this are examined. The primary need is to remove the underlying continuum without affecting the structure of interest and this requires broaching the problem of high frequency components in the background. Their removal is accomplished through use of a filter devised for this purpose. The properties of the more regular background are examined and a technique to accomplish its removal is presented.
