Modeling of a Communication Network Under TCP/IP Protocol Using Hybrid Petri Nets

Abstract On one hand, controlled systems via computer networks become a necessity in current industrial context. Indeed, it is more and more important to be able to control systems located on different sites without having to move. On the other hand, the communication networks, due to their limited flows and capacities storage imply delays of transmission and losses of messages. This paper presents a study of the influence of a communication network on the remote control. We have chosen to use Internet with TCP/IP protocol since it is the most used communication system in the world. In a communication canal, the flow of messages can be approximated as a continuous flow while the route decisions or the acknowledgments have a discrete behavior. It is why we have used Hybrid PNs in order to model and to analyze the communication network. Computers networks are a new application domain for hybrid PNs. Detailed graphical models of the complex functions met in Internet network. such as the congestion avoidance are obtained by using hybrid PNs
