A method and an apparatus for authentication of an electronic device are provided to perform the multimedia functions of the electronic device and the functions of a mobile communication terminal simultaneously. A method for authentication of an electronic device includes the steps of: transmitting a system serial number stored in the electronic device without a communication device to a mobile communication terminal according to the operation of a user(S110); generating an integrated secret key by encrypting the system serial number and an authentication key stored in the mobile communication terminal, and transmitting the integrated secret key to an authentication center computer after performing the communication connection with the authentication center computer(S120); performing authentication registration by decoding the integrated secret key, encrypting a temporary service approval key for the electronic device without the communication device and a temporary integrated authentication key for the approval of relay of the communication terminal, and transmitting the temporary service approval key and the temporary integrated authentication key to the mobile communication terminal(S130); obtaining the approval of the relay of the communication terminal by decoding the temporary integrated authentication key received from the authentication center computer, and transmitting the temporary service approval key to the electronic device(S140); and performing the authentication of a service by decoding the temporary service authentication key, and starting the service by applying the temporary service approval key to an application desired by the user(S150).
