Improved Axial Load Formulae for Normal and High Strength Reinforced Concrete Walls

This paper presents modifications to the current AS3600 wall design formula developed during a recently completed PhD research. At present the AS3600 design formula is used for the various conditions encountered in practice. The modified formula are devised for more specific situations. In particular the differences observed in the load carrying behaviour between one-way and two-way panels, and also between normal and high strength concrete panels, necessitates separate equations for these cases. An accurate analytical method developed for one-way walls will also be highlighted and compared to the modified formula. This analytical method differs from the column design method alternative given in AS3600. The formula and analytical method will be compared with available test data. A case study will be presented to illustrate the design procedure.
