Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty with Dehydrated, 4 °C-Stored, and Rehydrated Lenticules

Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) is currently considered the first-choice surgical procedure in patients with corneal diseases not involving the endothelial layer, including keratoconus (KC), stromal scars, and lattice dystrophy (1, 2). This procedure avoids the replacement of host endothelium with donor endothelium and therefore precludes endothelial graft rejection: the chronic endothelial cell loss (3) and the endothelial graft rejection are the most common reasons for graft failure after penetrating keratoplasty (PK).
