The sound pressure level of a cross-flow fan was numerically predicted by integrating the computational fluid dynamics with the analytical methods of acoustics, and its noise characteristics were analyzed. The sound noise prediction was based on the surface pressure data which were acquired through the unsteady flow computation. With the unsteady surface pressure data, the acoustic pressure level was calculated using the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings(FW-H) equation. The discrete BPF noise generated from the stabilizer and rotating blades was predicted, and it was also confirmed that a major noise source is located near the stabilizer. In addition, the BPF noise level and its spectrum on two random-pitch blades were investigated in order to understand how the BPF noise breaks down and also to validate the proposed computational methods.
