Ultra-fast all-optical packet-switched router with multiple pulse position routing tables

In this paper, we propose an all-optical packet switched router using new packet header address correlation scheme based on with pulse position modulation (PPM) signaling format. Both packet header address and all the routing table entries are represented in PPM-format address and multiple pulse-position routing tables (PPRT) for considerably reducing the header recognition time. Multiple PPRTs not only downsize the routing table, but also offer the robust header recognition using a single optical AND operation. The paper presents the modeling of the router based on the proposed multiple PPRTs and the simulation verification.
