New conceptual lightweight design approaches for integrated manufacturing processes: Influence of alternative materials on the process chain of electric motor manufacturing

The Future production of traction motors for electric vehicles faces several challenges such as variant flexible and scalable production processes, especially with the use of lightweight materials. Governmental decisions aim to enlarge the number of electric vehicles, which leads to an increasing demand of electric traction systems, encouraging the economical relevance of production processes. Lightweight electric drives have the potential to lower the environmental impact. In this paper, alternative approaches for manufacturing traction motors, consisting of rotor, stator and housing are presented.
