Whispering-gallery mode resonator technique for characterization of small volumes of biochemical liquids in microfluidic channel

A highly sensitive fluid sensors composed of a microfluidic channel and a high-quality factor whispering-gallery mode dielectric resonator in millimeter wave range was developed and tested for the study of aqueous solutions at sub-microliter/nanoliter volumes. The technique was designed for measurements in Ka-band as well as in the range near 170GHz. Such an approach demonstrates high sensitivity of concentration measurements for ethanol, glucose and albumin solutions.
