사전의 뜻풀이에서 괄호를 사용하는 방법에 대하여

The purpose of this paper is to show how to use parentheses in a definition of other dictionaries, and suggest to use them properly in a new dictionary. This paper especially showed the way of using two different parentheses in 〈Yonsei Korean Dictionary〉. There are important information of a usage of a word besides a definition : grammatical information and pragmatic one. For the convenience of dictionary users parentheses are need, because it is not easy to read and understand for them if there are many information in a row. So two parentheses are needed at least: one is backet [ ] for grammatical information and the other is parenthesis ( ) for pragmatic information and supplementary meaning for a word. ‘Shift of a part of speech’ should be indicated in a bracket [ ], for example, and ‘arguments of a verb’ should be indicated in a parenthesis ( ), (1) kak-gi noun … Ⅱ [used as an adverb] … (2) o-reu-da verb 1. (price + subject particle) to go up. Using parentheses helps for dictionary users to read and comprehend various information easily.
