Analysis and detection of arcing faults in low-voltage electrical power systems

This work focuses on developing a more complete understanding of the properties of arcing fault waveforms in a 230 volt, three-phase electrical system and to detect them in a cost efficient way. Analysis of waveform properties of experimental arcing fault current waveforms revealed significant variations from an unfaulted system current. Using the results of the analysis of the data gathered from the experimental setup, an analog detector was developed and tested under faults with various loading conditions.<<ETX>>
