Design Considerations and Performance Analysis of a Super High-Speed Switched Reluctance Motor for Electric Supercharger

In this paper, the design and performance analysis of a 4/2 poles super high-speed switched reluctance motor (SRM) for vehicle electric supercharger application are discussed and presented. The design of high-speed machines needs to consider both mechanical and electrical aspects since there are some mechanical factors that can limit the operating speed. Finite element analysis (FEA) was implemented first in the initial design process to find the characteristics of the proposed motor. Then, a prototype motor was manufactured. Finally, experiments were done to verify the design. Simulation and experimental results show the viability of the proposed motor as a super high-speed drive for electric supercharger application.
