This paper explores the construction process of a linear induction motor (LIM), the basic concepts behind key aspects of linear induction machines construction and the testing process of a working prototype. Using a three phase system, a set of coils is energized, generating a variable magnetic field which is taken advantage of to generate linear motion of a mechanical system. The designed motor allows for testing in different coil distributions, exploring Y coil distributions as well as Δ distributions, noticing a better performance under Δ configuration. Equivalent electric circuits are explored, and a model is developed. Automation circuit is implemented, allowing to change motor direction by swapping two of the feeding lines.
