Linear State Variable Feedback

With this chapter, we begin the study of the synthesis or design of compensation schemes for linear dynamical systems. Thus far, our attention has focused almost exclusively on a variety of procedures used in the analysis of these systems as well as the interrelations between various system representations. These initial investigations and the results which were obtained will now prove to be instrumental in the development of various alternative control and compensation techniques. The remainder of this text will therefore be devoted to the detailed development of a number of general control schemes including various types of feedforward and feedback compensators, as well as certain combinations of the two. We will employ both time domain and frequency domain methods for compensation, displaying any analogies between the two approaches when and where appropriate.
